TR6 aluminum radiators - TR6

Unless you are building a race car, I feel that it becomes a matter of choice and owner satisfaction. I opted to go with a re-core several years ago because I never had an overheating problem and still don't today, even in the hottest weather and bumper to bumper traffic. My extra $200 went into headers, so it was just a matter of where to put the available funds.

For me there is no worse a feeling than sitting in traffic watching the tempature gauge on your Triumph slowly creep toward the red bit! Seems like every Triumph I have ever owned had this issue at one time or another, and if an Aluminium radiator keeps the temp gauge firmly in the happy zone then it is money well spent IMHO. The radiator may not be the source of your overheating problems, but at least if you have an Al rad installed, you know you have to start looking elsewhere. Next to Lucas electrical problems, I have found overheating to be the most common British motoring hazard.

If I ever needed a new radiator, I'd probably look pretty closely at an aluminum version. However, with that being said, I'm running a nicely modded motor that's got an electric fan, GP2 cam, 10:1 compression, electronic ignition, triple carbs and headers and I have absolutely no issues with the stock radiator... and it gets pretty hot here in NC.

My point is: If you have a cooling problem with a TR6, it's probably not the radiator (assuming the radiator is in good shape).

It does look nice in there though
Need spinners next /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Uh, really? Could I look at em? Are they Rostyle spinners?

This is the best photo that I have of them.. standard two eared knock-offs. Let me know if you need anything closer and I'll snap a photo tonight.

Shannon,
I can almost read the tire specs in your photo, but not quite. What size wheels and tires are you running?

The tires are 205/70r15 Yoki Avid T4's.

The wheels are Dayton 72 spoke chromes (with polished stainless spokes). I think they're 15x5.5. I'll pull the spare tonight to verify.

Aw Geez. I thought you meant some of those wheels that spin backwards when the car is going forward. You know, Bling!

There was humor there somewhere.

FYI, aluminum radiator pricing for TR-6:
Ron Davis: $550
TRF: $499
Wizard Cooling: $445 (current special)

I haven't made up my mind yet which vendor but I will be putting an aluminum radiator into the six. Thanks for all the contributing thoughts.
