Aluminum bonnet?

Must have over heated it to get that patina on the cross brace

Musta taken a shot to th' front as those two holes on the underside ain't "standard". Likely access to straighten out some dimpled place. Lots of them got pushed on hard enuff to deform by some ham-fisted oil change monkey or other non-caring type.

I was wondering about those two holes. I'll put some plugs in them one of these days.

Who knows where this bonnet came from -- it's not original to the car. Lots goes on in 40+ years!

Think: adhesive from gluing the mat to the underside. Just stained.

Photo: Originally spot welded.

Please excuse under-bonnet "road film"... I'm not a big "detail" guy.

The funky stuff is "Expand-O-Foam". a couple dollops of the low expansion stuff to keep the "thrubbing" noises from developing.

Hood should close by holding it 6"~10" off the latch and letting go. Alternate method is to use two hands, palms down, 1 to 2 inches from front edge, palms apart 18" from eachother then push to latch... it should NOT be pushed on dead-center, and it shouldn't take much effort to engage the latch. It's mis-aligned if either of the two methods needs more effort.

There is one problem here. Aluminium bonnet is OK. Aluminum hood is OK. Aluminum bonnet is not OK. :nonono:

We'll work on 'im, Dave.

and notice the term "alloy" was used in place of Unobtanium in ~my~ subsequent posts. Trying to avoid controversy. :smirk: :jester:
