Aluminum flywheels hold up fine as far as wear goes. Every one I've ever seen or used had a steel insert as the friction surface for the clutch disk to work against. And they use the same steel ring gear for the starter.

That makes sense. Is this pretty standard for most of the flywheels that are out there? Anyone have a better source than the usual suspects?
 
Also check with Hap on which is the best. A world of knowledge when it comes to racing type equipment, along with stock equipment also.
 
I think this is the one Hap recommended in another thread.
