Alternator upgrade wiring?

Theres got to be something else wrong!

I'm not getting any charge back to my battery.
I changed over to the new alternator with all the correct wiring & then changed back to the old alternator with the same result no charge...

I can run the car till the battery dies...

Huh ? First you say the ammeter is showing charge all the time; then you say it doesn't charge at all ? I'm confused

me too !!!

now i dont get any signal on the amp meter except when I hit the brakes or turn on any acessory like the lights, Then it reads on the minus as if it is just drawing off the battery....

That's weird.

Resistance problem in the gauge, Randall??

Put your ohm meter to it and check if it is charging.

Any self respecting Car owner that uses Lucas Electrics and doesn't have a Ohm Meter? TSK TSK TSK.

When I had all my fun getting mine wired correctly, I had a similar thing happen. No draw, then pretty much pegged the ammeter for a while, then a draw when any lights were on.

According to the guy at Advance Auto Parts, I blew the diode. It was free advice, and sometimes you get what you pay for. In any event, I got a new alternator and stuck my head in the wiring diagram.

Mine works now that there's a good bulb in the idiot light and I only use two wires - the large Brown/Yellow and the small Brown/Yellow plugged just above it. I tied back the brown wire in the harness.

Seems unlikely to me; as it's passing current the other way; and the alternator would carry the load of the headlights if it were working. My guess is that something has caused the alternator to stop working.

Not sure about the Bosch, but many of them will not work if the dash warning light is burnt out or not connected. The current through the light is what gets them started working after you start the engine.

On my old Ford alternator, the stock TR light didn't pass quite enough current, so I added a resistor across the light. Otherwise I had to rev the engine way up to get the alternator going.
