I need a larger output alternator, can anyone that has installed one give me a brand and part number and where to order? I prefer a bosch unit

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

a note in the tech tips of wedgeparts says that a 105 amp alternator off a 1994 camaro 3.4 lv6 bolts right up to the mounts of a tr7. haven't tried it yet though.

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

I fitted a 55-60 Amp alternator from a Ford Fiesta (don't remember the year). They offered two brands of alternator, including the Bosch, which plugged directly in using the Lucas connectors. I'll dig out the part number when I get home tonight.

As an aside, what year is your TR6? If it's one of the later ones that came with emissions pump mounted above the alternator, you may have some problems with the installation. I solved this by getting a 1974 1/2 and earlier alternator bracket from Moss or VB (don't remember which), and then it was essentially a simple bolt-on job.

Check out this link, which describes fitting a GM alternator but has some infor about the brackets. I did not need to do any cutting or grinding.

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

ok, since i'm a noob, let me get this straight. in upgrading an alternator, you are wanting to raise the amperage in order to use more or higher powered electrical equipment, say some new halogen headlamps or a cd player, correct? is there a way to find what would be a good amperage range for the equipment your adding? thanks.

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

You would be correct. I have a cd player, amplifier(sp), upgraded halogen head lamps, and halogen fog lamps, electric fuel pump lots of relays, MDS spark unit. driving around now the amp meter is always pegged on Charging, and last night after a long drive I noticed the lights getting dim and the cd player kept going off so I figured either the battery is going or the alternator is not putting out enought amps to run everything and all the electricals are runnning off the battery too. To answer your question I am sure you can add up all the draws and pick an alternator to suit but 55-60 amps should work for me?

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

Ok, I got a Bosch Alternator remanufactured by Precision Parts. The part number is BOA666. It comes with a pulley.

I'm upgrading the wiring, lights etc and I figure 55 A should be enough for me!

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

Mark - do they have a web site or how did you order it? Also, is your's already bolted up and running? thx

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

I ordered through a local parts store here in Austin. If you contact Precision Parts (https://www.pprok.com/) they should be able to give you info on a distributor local to you.

Its been installed and up and running since January. No problems so far, although the other day I noticed a slight drop in voltage which may mean the belt needs re-tightening or the battery is on its way out (typical!). I don't have pics - I'll try and get some done, if I can find my camera....

Re: alternator up grade??? which one

I just picked up the BOA666 from viking imports in charlotte, the price was about 116 plus the core and shipping, it was in stock at Precision parts, so I am planning on installing this weekend... thanks Markt
