Alternator Replacement

I have a Lucas alternator in the Bugeye. It is now dead after 4-5 years. Before replacing with a rebuilt Lucas unit, I am thinking about switching to an American or Japanese unit so that when I encounter a problem again, I will be able to find a quick replacement at a commonly available auto parts store.

Does anyone make a "kit" for a non-Lucas alternator? I am really just looking for the bracketing - or, is my best bet to just fabricate something? Anyone have a photo or drawing of a bracket I might copy?

Here are a couple of links but if your tachometer is driven off the back of the alternator I dont think it would be possible.

Just did the same last year. Used an Auto Zone (Duralast DL7-140M alt (p/n 264222).

I've posted a nice picture (never have had luck with attachments due to size).

Just a correction, it was only the generator/dynamo in the Bugey that had the tach drive. Since Lin has aleady installed an alternator, there's no tach drive to worry about. I assume that the tach has been converted to electric.

I put a GM 7127 on my 1500, and so far it's been fine.
