Alternator help - please.

How are your thrust washers ?

a somewhat personal question for your third post don't you think? :grin:

Seriously, looks like it was the fan clutch and not the washers (mercifully!) I did the John Twist Youtube Video fix which is to put a hose clamp (2 actually for balance) between the cone of the water pump and the fan clutch wedging everything in place.

Today is to be 10 deg C (50 F) so all being well she will be going into storage this afternoon and hopefully will have time for a fuller test to confirm the fix.

Reddwarf, thanks again for the bump up on this thread - the car went into storage for the winter today. (how pathetic that it was my second longest drive of the season :rolleyes )

It was the fan clutch after all and fixing it with hose clamps worked perfectly. It does add a new whizzy sound to the engine but other than that all is great!

still would love to see pics of yours as well
