Hi guys - if memory serves there were some ideas on using soemthing other than the replacement Moss #763-040 FELT STRIP on the gas tank mount. Felt will absorb any spilled fuel, which isn't ideal. Any ideas to share?

Tom , on the 6 I am using the used 1/4 knee pads from my work overalls.

I used heavy weight black wool felt glued together 2 thicknesses. Never had a problem spilling fluids inside there (it would take some effort) anyway.

Naw, time to replace them. About 4 years old

Closed cell foam or neoprene.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

Felt will also breathe to let any condensed moisture (and that spilled fuel) evaporate. The felt I installed on my TR3A some 25 years ago is still in good shape and no signs of rust where it touched the tank. But a friend's TR6 (with foam from the factory) showed serious rust problems where the foam was glued to the tank.

T'aint broke, IMO.

Statement. Quite a few owners on the other site have gone that route with their 6's vs the felt including me. I ordered the felt initially and when I saw what I got from one of the Big 3, I was dissapointed to say the least. Obviously, there are some differences in the way tanks mount from the 3-4-6's.

FYI, my 6(73) came with felt from the factory and not foam.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave, agree, closed cell so it won't soak up fuel. Not that anyone who has the tank out hasn't already sealed the inside so leaking is just a slight possibility

Whatever you do, DON'T do this...
