Alternater

I will...should get it back tomorrow.

Got the alternator back...repairman said it should work but REALLY needs a new stator. He couldn't find one. Hooked it up and ign light won't go out and I only get 12.4 volts at battery no matter how high I rev the engine. I suppose the alt is just junk...don't know what else it can be. Good, caring repairman though. After the one he rebuilt burned out, he replaced rectifier, regulator and brushes and admitted he probably hooked up the orange wire incorrectly...no charge. He also said that he had found a NEW alternator and his cost is $120.00. Said if this one won't work, he'll get the new one and deduct the $80.00 I paid him to repair my old one. Seems like a good guy. Guess that's my only choice.

There is a NEW Saturn alt for conversion to MGB on ebay for something like 79 bucks. And it will put out all the current you could ever need. Bob

Repairman said that the stator needed to be replaced but he could not find one. I bought the new Lucas and installed it today. Worked great for about 80 miles of driving and THE WARNING LIGHT BURNED OUT!! Battery shows charge of 14.5 volts at 2500rpm so I gues the new alt is working but, why did the light burn out? Are there any electrical experts here? Surely, Doc, you have an answer!.

OK, as they say "my bad". The light didn't burn out, the new alternator is fine and what happened was that the indicator wire fell off the terminal. Carla and I toured Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park today and ran the winding roads around the hollers and had a ball. All is well with Ellie.

woo hoo! (it's always the simple stuff) now get out there and drive it like you stole it.

We are!! It's REALLY enjoyable. We 've been waiting for this. Carla has been driving her to school at Western Kentucky University for the last 3 days and now we're really having fun! We sure appreciate all of you guys. We wouldn't be where we are without you all. THANKS!

This may be heresey, and admitadly I did just skim this thread, but the alt went out on my 72 Midegt earlier this month and I got a rebuilt one from O'Riely's of all places. I poked on their website and they had one for $60 before exchange. Had it delivered to my local store and installed it with no issues.
