Alright, I quit before I screw something else up..

In attempting to remove the 4 Allen set screws in my TR3 crank that allow passageway to the oil channel, I managed to smooth out the 1/4" Allen head on the first plug. Guess I will have to let the machine shop drill it and use an Easy Out. Man, that is frustrating. Everything on the engine has come apart with relative ease, now this, the very last thing I attempted. Who wudda thunk? Does anyone out there forsee a problem with a shop getting these little plugs out?
And, there's no way in heck that these little jewels are reverse threads? Dang.

I feel for you Bill. I hate when crap like that happens and it happens to me more often then I care to think about. Not just the car but around the house also. Hang in there. You did the right thing by stopping.

When you have the crank re-ground they remove these plugs. They usually apply heat. I did the same thing and they got it out.

I'm thinking those plugs are peened in at assembly. I would let the machine shop deal with it. they have the tools to make it simple.

Re: Alright, I quit before I screw something else

Hi Bill,

Those plugs are in there tight! I'm not sure what the secret it, maybe heating it up gently would help. I thought I'd leave it to the machine shop that gets the job of overhauling my TR4's crankshaft.
