why didn't someone tell me i was spelling "alfa" wrong??? My brother's alfa is a '79. It must be the spica FI because I don't recognise it as a variation of the J-tronic FI. I've been working six days lately, but today hope to get some time on the car. I'm also putting SU HS6's on my TR7 and uprating the suspension on the wife's '68 mustang so I'm spread kind of thin.
When I turn on the ignition I can hear some relays engage, but I don't hear any whirring or buzzing I can identify with a fuel pump. The tank had been drained when parked and I put in six gallons of fresh gas.
I still don't have tail/instrument lamps and I wonder if the fuel pump power is tied into that circuit somehow?.
Usually the fuel pump is on a whole seperate circuit with a small fuse box under the dash. IIRC the fuel pressure warning light is also thru this box, since only US cars got the Spica, everything connected with them may be on this additional fuse box. If you pull the air cleaner box off you will be able to see the spica and the fuel lines, there is also a cannister type fuel filter and the fuel pressure light sending switch (looks like an oil pressure sending unit).
On the '79 I believe there should be a seperate fuse box (small black one with a "thumb screw" cover) somewhere just outboard of the main one under the left dash panel. Two fuses in it.
GOOD CALL!!! Those cut-out switches are the cause of more unnecessary towing bills than can be believed! It's a grey round "can" made of plastic with a smaller "button" on top of it. Push down the button or better: by-pass the infernal thing!
Mine was *somehow* reduced to a melted blob of plastic and currently resides *somewhere* in the jungle behind the hovel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
found the safety cutoff switch. seems to be working when checked with an ohmmeter. bypassed it still can't hear a fuel pump. I didn't measure 12 volts on either wire going to the switch. Does it switch power or switch ground for a relay? cleaned the backside of the fuse panel while i was at it.
