Long story as short as possible. Kelly had a flat on the way home. She pulled over at a truck stop that has a bar behind it where they were filming "True Detectives" w/ Woody Harelson and Mathew Maconowhateverhis name is. Of course it's a closed set but I want to check it out anyway. I finish Kelly up and told her to wait a minute. They are filming a biker bar scene and I just so happened to have on the jacket from my fire suit from racing ( I was doing some melting today) , a two month old beard and my old steel toe boots so I should fit right in. While I was walking towards the back, a "fellow" castmember happen to fall in right beside me. We both strolled right past the gate in the front onto the set. They were inbetween shots so it wasn't a big deal. OnceI was in back of the place I saw it was FULL of bikers. Having had outlaw biker friends in the past, I can assure you these guys weren't actors. The old fat ZZ Top looking guys gave me a glance but that was about it. I did stand out a bit as my jacket is blue and EVERYONE else was wearing black. I got to the back of the set and pulled out my phone like I'm talking to someone while I check things out. There is a fire going behind the bar about 15 feet from me where several young ladies dressed like Kelly Bundy are trying to keep themselves warm. Leather mini skirts and tube tops don't offer much protection in 51 degree weather.
So, I'm haning out and they start getting ready for the next shot and call for everyone who was sitting at the bar to return there. I figure this is a good time for me to split as A.) This is all too familar territory and B.) I like being married to the woman waiting for me in the parking lot. I hated to leave but knew I'd better...
I use to do stuff like that all the time. It was easy because I had always travelled alone. I knew one day something like that would happen again and I wouldn't be able to see where it lead now that I'm married. While it sucked having to leave, it was cool to once again just walk right in to someplace I wasn't supposed and fit right in.
Too bad I had to leave, I betcha Woody woulda been fun to hang out with...maybe a bit too much....
