My name is Jon, and I'm living in Northville, MI (Detroit area). I recently bought my first MG. I found a great deal on a 1979 MGB down in Texas. My plans for the car are to get it set up for racing. So I will likely be asking for some advice from all of you out there. I'd like to get into some road racing and I plan on building the car as best I can while keeping it to SCCA rules for one of the production classes.

I'm a young engineer, just graduated from Purdue in May of '04, and I'm working for a small auto supplier up in Auburn Hills. My true passion is motorsports though, and I'm hoping to get back to working with a race team.

I'm pretty excited about my B, as it is the first car I have ever purchased with my own money, and oddly enough, when my dad was young, the first car he bought with his money was a '69 MGB. Must run in the family.

So, look forward to me picking your brains for help where I need it. Thanks.

Hail, hail to ol' Purdue (Class of '73)........e to the x blah, blah. Welcome to the wonderful world of MG. I had my first at Purdue in 1971-73 (a 1967). I can't help you with racing since my cars are: 1998 Boxster, 1971 Porsche 914, and 1977 MGB, but welcome. Other friends that RACE (engineers) start by totally removing anything Lucas...sorry fellow MG'ers. You may want to check with "racing girl" and "Bugeye58" here at British Car Forum. Both are active members at the Waterford Hills Road Racing track in Michigan.

As a fellow Prod Car racer,(H Production Sprite), and Waterford chief Tech inspector, I'll be more than happy to help get you started. Another forum member, Racing Girl, is one of our Grid workers, and lives in Novi. I'm sure she'll be along in a bit.

Well, better late than never! Here I am! Welcome Jon, I echo what Jeff and Nial have said about Waterford Hills, you won't find a better place to race in the area. Windsor Detroit MG Club are a really good bunch of folks as are The Michigan Rowdies who are part of the North American MG Register. I'm a member of The Detroit Triumph Sportscar Club, we have a lot of MG's in our ranks. You might also want to look up Guy St. John who is also in Northville, is very knowledgeable about MG's and is King of the local autocross circuit in his BGT.
