Anyone know anything about them...I've got the opportunity to pick up a very nice one(except for the color) for under 4K.

Northstar, or pushrod V8? They are a little tough to get body and trim parts for, but the Northstar powered ones are decent.

says it's a 4.1 V8....So I am thinkin pushrod because my north* caddy is a 4.6....unless they changed the displacment at some time. I've always had a thing for the allante's, but the color of this one is really bad. But I got a feeling it can be had real cheap, if I hadn't just purchased a TR6 yesterday I would jump at this....but I only got one extra parking spot.

Quite a little cult following of those cars. there is a club just for those. A friend of mine had one... that's about all I know.

I did a little research: They only made a little over 2000 of them, chassis was made by GM then shipped to Italy for the body work. Interesting cars.
Anyone remember JR in Dallas drivin around in one of these /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The term 'polygamy' comes to mind here.... but I'm no-one to talk... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

ZI even like the color

Zyou do? Zme too!

Ze Zenor!

Northstar engines only went into Allantes in 1993. One can buy an early Allante for as little as $2500. The 1992s can be had for $5,000-7,500. 1993s start around $15,000, which is somewhat insane, because despite popular belief, the Northstars are not great engines! (People get hung-up on OHC vs pushrod, but in terms of reliability, parts costs etc... the Northstar is horrible, as are the trannies used to harness the power....Power delivery is nice, but the chassis in the Allante isn't up for all of it.)

The body is designed and built by Pininfarina. A good looking car in my humble opinion. Had very bad gauges in most cars -- called the "Tron dash" due to the wild LEDs.

The downfall of the Allante was a very poor top design. You needed to have an engineering degree from MIT to figure out how to raise and lower the top. As I recall, there were three different buttons for the "automatic" operation.

Now as drivers, they were much like the Mercedes SL, meaning they were softly sprung, wallowed a little, but were GREAT cruisers. The 1993 model handled better, because it was slightly recalibrated.

It might seem like I'm bashing the Allante, but it's actually a pretty good touring car.

Value appreciation won't happen for at least 15 years. The non-Northstar ones are pretty much at their bottom values, though. This is good, since you basically can't lose money when you buy a good one.

As with all cars, the key is insuring you are buying a good one. Caddies had a problem with electrical problems and ignition failures. Also, the interior bits are impossible to find, so a well-cared interior is essential!

Couldn't agree more about northstars....I love my STS when it runs right....But when it screws me around(not all that rare) it's a real pain. I did offer $2500 for the Allante and he turned it down....But I got a feeling he'll be back, so I am gunna sit tight for now.

And yes, I bought another 6....well as long as the owner doesn't continue to screw me around over payment terms. TR6's are one of my favorite LBC's...I just gotta have one, even if it's gunna have to sit outside.

That's a good offer for that car. The color isn't the most popular, and the rims -- well that's a matter of opinion.

My parents have a '95 Seville SLS (275hp vs. STS 295hp.) It always takes about $2500 per year to keep on the road, but it keeps chugging along. My dad drives it now, and it's a nice comfortable commuter for him -- when he wants to get sporty, he takes the Lotus Elan to work.

I drive the Caddy as my commuter now(about 100 miles a day), and it does take about $2500 on a good year, basically any problem you have with it is gunna cost at least $1000 to fix. About 2 weeks ago it started severly misfiring while doing about 80mph on the highway....lasted for about 3 minutes and then cleared right up...I'd put some fuel injector cleaner in it the day before so I think it loosened up some crud, but it did give me a good scare! Then a week later the handbrake only released halfway and burn the pads to nothing, and the same day the annoyingly big rearvwiew mirror with useless digital compass just fell right off<<<I wasn't very happy with that car that day. The only thing I will say is that when this car is running right it is an awesome luxury car, tons of power and feels like your riding on a cloud.

And I agree on the rims too....Not my thing at all, but the stock rims for that car arn't very appealing either.

You think I should try my offer on this guy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif $22,000 is expensive for ANY 13 year old car! But he does say Barter/exchange /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

That I would love to pick up for under $4,000!

When they were new, I agreed with you...now that I'm almost 61, they're interesting!
