All you in the Northeast

A lot of work for a warm bun

Wasn't there a song on the Beatles "White" album about that and happiness?

Elliot: I actually own TWO pairs of socks... Just in case.

Don: Heat lamp inna loo, strategically placed.

Brer Mick: Mostly right... I've both.

Looks like the only place in CONUS east of the Mississippi not going below freezing overnight will be Miami. Predicted low of 47°F there. Brutal on those not used to it.

At some point today, the average temperature in CONUS was 14.8F

It's 8 degrees here and dropping. Most schools have already canceled for tomorrow. :snowman:

Toronto - note this is celcius - but, expecting records to fall here also

8 below and dropping. Schools closed again tomorrow. Took car in for service this am w/ 16 below and wind 20-30. Who do ya think could get their car to start, me and 2 sales guys. NO mechanics. Jez

-4F and crazy windy here.....
More to the point, Have you ever seen a mechanics car? I'll leave it at "We know what we can get away with". But that doesn't include short term extreme weather. Their car probably has that borderline battery that came out of a customers car who had the money to follow their advice and get a new one that would hold up to a cold snap like this.
On that note, I'm praying may car starts this morning.

0 degrees here. That probably sounds balmy to some of you guys.

I turned on my outside light at 6:30 AM to check my outside thermometer and saw about 20 white tail deer in my yard. I can't imagine how they survive?

Anyway, it was 0F here (-18C).

Apparently this is the result of a weakened "polar vortex" which is sort of a high altitude cyclone over the North Pole.

NOAA has some related info ~HERE~

A lot of room for concern I would think. It is a strange phenomenon to me that the North pole is warmer than the outlying areas. Wonder how the South pole is being effected?

Think of the cold through the upper midwest as a learning experience rather than just a opportunity for frostbite. It's been colder than Point Barrow Alaska, so we all know know what working the north slope oil fields feels like...
