All you Concourse Freaks out there.

OK, Now I'm sad. I spent $1100 and all I got was a 72 Mini. For .99 more, I could have been carrying around a new battery instead of driving a cute little car.
Oh well.......

WOW! How did I miss this one!!

There is "NO" Triumph or any marque on this earth that would need an $1100 Battery!!

The Buyer must have been bought by "Trump" who has more $$$ than God & does`nt know what to do with it!

Hey Tinster; You did`nt buy it; Did You?

Just Kidding;

Regards, Russ

Wonder what the significance of the lemon is?

I see that all the time. I think it's an attempt to brand/trademark the photo so no one can steal it and use with another listing.

There's a guy selling other NOS Lucas parts that uses an orange. $1100 for a battery is a bit over the top.

Yep I have been seeing the orange for about 3 years. Wonder if it is the same one he started with, heh.

I've dealt with acebristol, I think one of the first guys on ebay that started using an orange; at least for vintage car parts. He's probably one of the best sellers on eBay IMO. He never, if rarely has a high reserve, and he never puts ridiculously high "buy it now" prices. Plus he lists the coolest stuff sometimes.

And "nickisupreme" is again the high bidder. It will look great next to the $150 oil cap.

I couldn't agree more. He comes up with the neatest stuff, some of which has greatly appealed to me...and the needs of my cars! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Don,
I really must say that I object to your characterization of anyone who rebuilds to concours standards as a freak! #1 if you are going to beat up on any one who rebuilds to that standard, at least spell it right!
Some folks don't truly understand what concours means. It means rebuilding a motorized vehicle to the same standards and look as when it came off the factory or dealership floor. Having said that I must add that there are some folks that do go overboard with it, they have more money than me. There is not a judge out there that would give extra points for a "Lucas" battery that cost $1100. I know because I have done some judging in my time.
I'm building a TR3A to that standard. What does that mean? I have done a ton of research and asked many questions on this forum to find out what is correct. I took the car completely apart and am putting it back together piece by piece after each piece has been examined refurbished or replaced. A tedious, frustrating, monster of a job! All except the body is being done by me, well except for the plating and the engine machine work. When it is done I will enter it in the concours competition, win lose or draw, I don't care because I will be very proud of it. It will probably get dirty because I will drive it. No trailer queen for me. The payoff will be when people come buy and say "nice car".
My thoughts on what "concours" means to me!

I thought this thread was about strange people who hang out at the airport.

Tinkerman- Please enjoy the post as it was meant. It was a fun poke at those who have the where with all to spend gobs of money on things that most feel are really not necessary.I have the utmost respect and admiration for the folks out there who go about the diligence to build a vehicle as stock or in almost ant case better than stock.

Is exactly why I wrote this.My respect is out to you,Don Elliott, and all that have beautiful restored vehicles.

Respectfully and apologetically yours

There are manufacturers out there that make batteries for older cars. A quick google came up with Antique Auto Battery. They even have Lucas. I couldn't find any prices, but they have to be lower then what the e-bay listing went for.

Someone must really want that battery. For the most part all of the seller's other auctions went pretty cheap.

Thanks Don. I think I understand your thoughts and I agree with them. I don't want folks out there to think that Concours is all about money! It is all about doing it so that they look like they came off the showroom floor. I would really, when I finish this one, to buy and build a Pre-74 TR 6, then look out, it would truly be the last of the Hairy Chested Sports cars. I love LBC's!

I'm on my third battery from the Antique Battery Co. They come for about $200.00. I pay them an extra $10.00 to leave the lead inter-connections visible on top of the battery. Each one has lasted me about 6 years which is normal for any modern battery.

I'm sorry, but there really is "one born every minute". Don mentioned above an average life for a modern battery; what is the lucky winner going to do if this 30+ year old battery dies after a couple of years?

How on earth are we going to attract younger people into the hobby, so that these cars stay on the road after us, when madness like this happens? This ranks right up there with the $90K+ TR4 that was sold at auction.

Concours is one thing, but we are not talking about a rare Bugatti here.
