Alana----any up-dates on the axle??

Alana, Do you have any updates on the axle?, was there a binding problem?. Has anybody else heard anything on this?.

Re: Alana----any up-dates on the axle??

Funny - I went up there today. Been away and needed to see what if anything has been done to the car, and also went to get something anodized. Found a great place - guy wanted less than 1/3 of the price of the closest competitor, and turnaround is 2 days rather than the 10 I was quoted. If you live in Ct and want stuff anodizing then send me a pm and I'll give you the number for the guy.

Anyway - drifting slowly back to the point.
There were 2 problems.

1. Caused by the LSD I fitted. I needed to get the adapter plates for the diff welded up to the adapter plates provided for the halfshafts. They weren't done - after a week - they will be done by Monday or I'm going postal. Hopefully then it will be all fitted Tuesday.

2. The guy provided these hand-made thrust washers to spread the load on the CV joints. They were made in a hurry and it shows - they are a tiny bit too big (erring on the safe side I guess), and they hit in a couple of spots where there is casting slag on the inside of the swingarm while we were testing for range of motion.

He's already said he'll make better ones for the next set - he also offered to send me some when he does, but no way am I taking the assembly off to install them once its all in. I'm going to grind the ones he sent down to be flush with the cv assembly - 5 mins on a bench grinder and they'll be perfect. I'll try to find a pic so you see what I mean, but its on a different computer so you might have to wait a few hours 'till I get to it.

So to answer your question - its still not in. I heard from the guy who made them yesterday and emailed him with basically the same info. He hasn't sold anyone to anyone else so I guess he's getting antsy.

Hopefully they will be in on Tues.

Finally...

Re: Alana----any up-dates on the axle??

Well I have nfi, and I contracted for just me, but I hope he does ok out of the deal.

I'm given to understand he had a bunch of hubs made up based on the calls he got - it knocked $100 off the cost so I'm not complaining. They are so much nicer than stock - you have to see them in person. In this case the pics truly dont do them justice.

btw: If anyone wants to buy stock rears let me know - they have brand new ujs in (hardy spicer - zero miles), and bearings are serviceable but not refurb'd - I took them out of my car and started refurbing before going this route. Core value is $150 from TRF and there are $40 worth of UJs in there. Best offer over that gets them, or they go on ebay...

Re: Alana----any up-dates on the axle??

So I just got off the phone with the mechanic - he's finally got back round to putting these in after waiting for the tig welding to be done.

One of them has to go back to be shortened. The Nissan diff is too eccentric for the halfshaft to cope with. The other side is in just fine. If you have stock that means you will be ok. If you have the R200 you'll need this mod too.

Just an fyi.
