FYI just wanted to pass along that Al Moss is having brain surgery in Flagstaff AZ.

His wife wanted it passed along to the MG community.

For those interested in sending Al a get well card here is the hospital info

He is supposed to have his surgery today.

I am sure he and his family would appreciate being showered with cards from his fellow MGer's
 
UPDATE from Al's significant other, Lynda:

Al had the surgery yesterday and is coming around slowly. He's sleeping most of the time, but the docs say he is doing well and the surgery went well. He is in ICU and will be for another day. Then he will go to a regular room if all goes as planned. The pathology will be back early in the week and so there is no news as yet about the tumor.


He is still joking when he is awake and he has feeling and function in his left side, whew. Don't know about the vision yet because he has his eyes closed most of the time, but he seems to see as before.
 
An update .... Al seems to be doing well...

Saturday's email is below, and for those of you not up to speed about
the goings on, Al had a mass removed from his brain on Friday. We
learned of its existence only 6 days before that, so life has been a
whirlwind since then. The following should help explain for anyone
new to this growing email list.

7/15/12

Today Al ate 3 meals, did some exercises, and got up to walk down the
hall with the PT lady! His mood is getting better and better and
though he's still sleepy a lot of the time, he is looking forward to
coming home and feeling more positive about his situation. He's in a
regular room but is still not ready for much company, and phone calls
can be difficult for him. Maybe Tuesday will be better. Hopefully
he'll be home soon and then visiting and calls will be easier.

Al will have some deficits, but only time will tell what his
limitations are. This trying time has reminded me how precious life
is, and that it's best to savor the blessings in each day, for they
are always there.

Please keep up the prayers and good wishes that Al has a speedy
recovery and a joy-filled life. I'll be in touch as time allows.

Al may come home tomorrow! He is excited about that and I sure hope he can, but we still have no word re the tumor. Keep the good thoughts and prayers going please. We can both use them!

UPDATE: Received from Lynda at 10:00 am this morning:

So sorry to inform you that Al did not come home today, but hopefully tomorrow he can. He developed some blood clots and is being treated for them. Also, regarding the tumor, it was a type of cancer and treatment is available, which he likely will start in a few weeks.

He'll see the oncologist soon. She is actually the oncologist who oversaw my case, and she's wonderful. So please continue to keep Al in your prayers and good thoughts. He is doing well, in spite of all the challenges, and with the help of your positive input he can continue to do what we all should do ... live life fully and without regret. He is so good at that!

Update - 7/19/2012

I received this a few moments ago from Lynda:

Al is home! Finally and happily. We got delayed in Flagstaff due to
hospital slowness and changes, but we got to the house about 9:15
p.m., hooray. Al is still on oxygen and has a bunch of meds to take,
but he is enjoying his own bed and his kitty.

I have to give him twice a day shots for a while and there is a lot
to do and organize, but we'll work out a routine and it will get easier.

In a few days he may be up to making and receiving phone calls and
having visitors. Right now he has to recover from the hospital!!
Please keep in touch, and know that your caring and support is
welcomed and appreciated.
