Air Filter

Hello, I just purchased a 1979 Midget and it is missing the air cleaner. I dont mind after market replacements, which would be a good substitute? It is single carb from the factory.

Thanks in advance
David

I think moss sells a K&N for the ZS carb...you could probably get a used air cleaner box with a wanted ad here though...

I agree with the K&N recommendation, as that's the only filter I run on all my vehicles. APT also has a good K&N selection.

Whichever way you go, it's important that you get some kind of filtration on there as soon as possible. It's amazing what one tiny stray rock flying into an open carb will do.

It doesn't even have to be a rock. Just the normal sand and grit that pounds the front of your car can ruin an engine pretty quickly. I wouldn't dream of driving it till I got something on there. I've seen the air filter boxes for 1500's on ebay from time to time. It should be pretty easy to come up with one. I only run K&N filters on high performance stuff but they are good filters if you keep them clean and oiled.

I agree 100%. But, most people don't think about the abrasive quality of normal air ingested while driving.
Now, make them envision a rock going into the engine, and it usually gets their attention! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL....too right. I take things too literally sometimes...

Qmaster,

Check the Classified forum there is a air filter for sale ($10 plus shipping) that will fit your car.

Thanks I sent Mark an email about the filter. If he doen't respond I will buy an after market one. I am flying to Miami to pick the car up on the 14th of this month and do not want to drive it with out one. Although someone evidently already has. I noticed from the pictures after I had already purchased the car. It only has 58k on it so maybe it was not much. I did notice it has a new distributer on it also so maybe it was removed when the engine was being worked on. I have contacted the previous owner about it and he is going to check with the last repair shop to see if it is lying around.
