getting ready to paint wife's car. are the inline dessicant air dryers worth the money for ensuring dry air for the paint pot?
 
I've had good luck with them so far. Make sure that the line you are using has never been hooked up to an oiler or you will have nothing but trouble.
 
If you have a second air tank around you can use it at a lower pressure than your compressor to help dry the air. I come out of my 80 gallon tank at 160psi and drop to 80 psi into a 20 gallon air tank then pull off that tank to the gun. Less water will be held in the air at the lower pressure (google “psychometric chart” if you have insomnia). If you have an HVLP gun you can go to an even lower secondary pressure. I still use the desiccant cartridges at the gun though. Another trick is to coil up some air hose in an old refrigerator and then go into the small air tank. This acts as a poor mans refrigerated dryer.

I agree with the "no oil in the hose" suggestion above.
 
both good ideas I hadn't thought of. i'll try and find a secondary air tank!
