This is a really fun event, with a great dinner speaker - Stuart Turner - past BMC Motorsports Manager when the Big Healeys and the little Minis were kicking international butt in the rallies.
Plus, they even have Valve Cover Racing !

Check out : https://www.austin-healey-stc.org/ for details

Who can we look forward to meeting there?

Peter--

Well, you've already met me once at Conclave but I plan to be there. I may be bringing a Valve Cover racer with me.

Is that like racing for pinks?

[/ QUOTE ]
Na.....trophies only, one's personal racer, of course, at the owner's discretion, I guess, could be up for grabs.

Good deal, Michael, I am working on mine! - the allignment needs adjustment for each run, and I can't seem to get a feel for the best weight. But, what the heck, it's kind of a fun diversion! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
I am reading Stuart Turner's book right now - "Twice Lucky" - he will be a real trip to hear!
Look forward to seeing you soon - got that hardtop all finished off?
Cheers,

Peter--

The vendor of the hardtop is sending me a new rear window. Until it arrives (probably not for a few weeks) I will just have to enjoy the present one.

Best--Michael

Tell me about your valve cover racer.
Pic of my prototypo attached - oops, too big, will have to redo. Here is the "leading edge" of the regular, non-streamlined version. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Peter--

Sorry, can't do that--My design is a closely guarded secret, but I can tell you that I have received technical assistance from several of the brighter stars on this list. Just to get you concerned I will share with you that I have gone to an eight-cylinder configuration.

hummmmmmmm I'm calling Tom Cuneo.

augh, come on....... I showed you a teaser of mine......now you need to show me yours! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey - come on Healey fans! This is a great event ! Bring out those cars and enjoy - come saturday only if you can't make it earlier - it'll be a nice drive.

Michael - I posted a full picture of my valve cover racer on this site - under "Other British Cars" if you're interested - That was taken prior to numerous crashes and actual fire! I may have to redo the exterior paint in a small section, but may just run the beat-up version cause it has more "character" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How do you catch a valve cover racer on fire? Were you pouring molten lead into the cover?

I probably won't have a chance to reassemble mine until Saturday the earliest--hopefully I will finish painting the cover, chassis and wheels by tomorrow, then after reassembly will play with ballast.

[/ QUOTE ]

Right !!!! I had a torch, was taking a "short cut", and melting the lead directly into the cover, so as to save at least one step, eh?, DUH! I said, DUH! Minor fire, quickly extinguished! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The Valve Cover Racing was a blast. Attached find a picture with my entry ("THe Red Lead Sled")in the foreground which garnered a third-place finish, not bad for a rank amateur. I used two 1098 valve covers in tandem, ballasted with 25 pounds of lead shot frozen with a quart of polyester resin. Wheelbase 24", track 8", weight about 35 pounds. The heaviest entires did best so I guess it is all about mass.
