Saw add on Craigs list for two spitfires one rusted bad one maybe salavageable for $250.00. will go and look at in next couple of days. just thinking about buying to save. I know next place this car is going is junk yard if someone doesn't buy. How similiar are these to the Sprites as far as drive trains. the best one has OD and 1500

Well, it's mostly apples and...uh, very different apples. Both cars were front engine and rear drive...and the last of the "Spridgets" (MG Midget from 1975 to the end) used the Spitfire engine and gearbox. But where the early Sprite had quarter-elliptic springs supporting a live rear axle, all in a unibody structure, the Spitfire had a transverse rear leaf spring supporting swing axles in a backbone chassis to which a separate body tub was bolted.

so I would say completly different cars, So they should have completly different personalities and be like have two sports cars that handle and drive different. This is good

The OD is worth the $250 alone. A hardtop would be a cherry on the top. Let me know if you don't want it. You could make the OD fit a RB Midget with a little effort. The 77 is probably the better year of the two. However, I feel the Mk IV is a slightly better looking car. Cleaner lines and the most attractive bumpers.

Spits and Spridgets are quiter different cars, but have the same targeted end user. Good around town cars. Both fun the drive. Only similarity in the drive train is the RB Midget uses the 1500 engine and trans from the Spit. Earlier Midgets have a completely different drive train.

I will take my camera and take a few shots tomorrow. Really don't want the cars.........just don't want them to be junked

Went and look at the spitfires today, if I had covered storage I probably would have made an offer to buy. He had already sold the extra 1500 engine/transmission with overdrive.

This is the 1977. the cars have been covered somewhat until recently in CONWAY SOUTH CAROLINA. Car seem 1/2 way solid and felt like it would make a good cone racer on Sundays. He is asking $300.00 for both cars, the older one is rough but has a lot a extra parts to include extra set of doors

This is the older model, according to current owner the body has rivet patch panels with bondo over lays

Another under the bonnet, notice the rust at front around grille area. owner said this was a common spot for rust, car has snake skins and rat nest in it so I dared not slid the pine straw away from side of car and look under for floor pan rust

Interior shot, parts are all over both cars

drivers side rear wing has some dabbed bondo, maybe just filled in rust

I will try to find person name and phone number if anyone wants to contact

I would imagine bonnet is worth asking price
