Me too but it was a dual drive 2.4MB all at the same time. When I first started into computers I was using 8 inch floppy discs on a dual drive Shugart disc reader.
The first computer I used at college was a PDP with a Western Union teletype machine with paper tape. Put the paper tape dots in a dixie cup with a firecracker. Takes a while to clean up.Me too but it was a dual drive 2.4MB all at the same time.
When I was working at NORAD, living in the barracks, I once put a bag full of those little chips in my room mate's sock drawer! We had a guy at the Forest Service air tanker base where I was flying that was a real pain in the rear. We filled the defroster vents in his car with those punch card bits. Years later he would still get them flying out whenever he used the defroster. It was the gift that kept on giving.
Just me being pedantic again, but weren't they called 'chad'???I once put a bag full of those little chips in my room mate's sock drawer!
Chad was my roommateJust me being pedantic again, but weren't they called 'chad'???
Or was that just a Florida election thing.
Went to seminary just as computers were coming in. Some had word processors most didn't. (I was using an IBM selectric). Had one classmate whose wife worked doing word processing and did his papers on the most up to date word processor. They came in duo tangs with clear plastic covers. Years later I was having a drink with one of our profs from back in the day and she confided in me that never in her life had she ever seen anything so beautifully presented that was so devoid of content.I thought it was pretty slick back in my 70s college days to have access to use the AS400 that the department had. I could type up papers on it rather than using a typewriter. it didn't format or spell check or any of that, I had to print, adjust by adding spaces to go to the next page and so on. But even with all that I liked it better than manually using a typewriter and redoing pages if I made a spelling error or other mistake. As an employee of the student computer center it was one of the privileges I got. Now, auto spell check, formatting and such spoils me.
