AH---what is this car ?

beaulieu,

When you have a moment... check the carbs... if they have a two bolt mount then it is an early BN4, if 4 mounting bolts per carb, then later BN4... The grill indicates a BN4 or early 3000.... sooo ????

the id tag sales BN4L

is there another VIN number other than the firewall tag ?

beaulieu, nice find, check the attch. it shows the i.d plate on the center right side of the firewall (as looking from the front of the car with the hood open) as for the snakes, eat them before they eat you, ever have deep fried rattler? very good, and yes you can keep everything you find just not all at the same time!

thanks for the numbers locations...

well it got done but not easy

so here is some of the story, ....
if you looked at the first small pics you saw it was in a dirt yard , so when I got there I was glad access was wide open as the house is being sold ,
I brought a shovel and removed the tumbleweed / sticker bushes so I could get around it ,
front tires were not beaded in the rims anymore - bummer
but I jacked up the front to get the tires out of the hole they were sitting in,
The rear was more interesting , jacked each side up seperately , filled the tire with "air in a can sealent , one stayed up , one halfway up , so far so good
,
BUT the transmission was locked in gear , the shifter hole was full of dirt and I did not want to move it without a vacuum to suck up the dirt.....
So I had to drag it on the trailer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Great idea since I had a 12V winch and a battery pack I had charged the day before .....WRONG....the battery pack lost the charge overnight....****....
so then it was the come a long, this worked some but pulling a car with 2 flats in the front and locked up rear end in the back is hard work....

Anyway got it halfway up with the come a long and backing the trailer up under the jacked up car (do not try this at home)
at the end I took the battery out of the truck to get the winch to work....
so an easy 30 minute job ended up being 3 1/2 hours and at the end the hottest part of the day , 102 degrees....

So treasure hunting is fun , but often very back breaking work.....

OHH and no snakes,,,,,at least not yet , who knows what will come out of this beast tonight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Beaulieu

OHH and its for sale in the classifieds......

outside door lock - 2 port head. looks like a longbridge car. I can't read the serial number but it looks like 38xxx. The carbs on the engine look right. It'll be a real project for an adventurous restorer.

Beaulieu - Congratulations what you have is a Longbridge BN4L-O-38??? "Deluxe" model. The L is for the left hand drive, & there should be "O" next in your vin or car #. The "O" is for overdrive. since I see you have the overdrive switch on the dash. The "Deluxe" model had the overdrive and wire wheels. If the # is actually 38???, this car was built around March of 1957. You have the 2porthead which went with the Longbridge cars. Also very important, you have the centered single head dual window washer on the hood. These are hard to locate. Don't lose it. However you are missing from the dash - the chrome plated window washer push pull. These are also hard to locate, perhaps that is why yours is missing. Did you happen to notice under the dash on the passenger side on the package tray, did you have the window washer fluid bottle.? Probably not? this was glass and also hard to locate. I also see you have the top frame slide, as well as, the top frame, so you are well on the way for a new project. Best of Luck - Jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
Also if you are interested, we are always looking for new members to the Longbridge BN4 2 porthead Registry. send me an email at bn4_2porthead@hotmail.com and I will immediately send an application to you

" Congratulations what you have is a Longbridge BN4L-O-38??? "Deluxe" model." COOL

How many of these were built , one website said 600-700,

I have not really looked inside it , too much dirt and I did not have the shop vac handy , there is 2 inches of dust/silt on the floors

I will look for the "glass bottle" next time I am near it ,
its stored 30 miles from here....

thanks

Beaulieu

I had to smile when I saw the woodgrain contact paper on the dash. I did that to my car to back in 1964. Thought it looked really cool. Have since changed my mind.

Beaulieu - you may want to check that web site again which said only 600 to 700 Longbridge BN4s being built. I believe that should be 6000 to 7000.. Also again check out Derek Job's www.healeysix.net, under production data for the Longbridge cars 1956 to 1957 - 5,541 and 1957 to 1958 - 1,512. For a possible total production of 7,053 of the Longbridge 2 porthead models. again Best of Luck with the new project - jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Well, I hope someone from the Forum buys the car. It is restorable, but with a lot of work. First, your going to need some new tires /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just kidding, I would dissassemble and send off to JULE for a new frame, you're going to need it with that much rust you know the frames ruined. Good luck to some lucky person who has a lot of time on his hands. check out the attached photo of a similar project..
