AH EFI build... again

Update.... brought the engine home yesterday!.. big day for me since the engine has been in "build" status for a year. I actually pulled it out of the car one year ago.

Few changes I made after the initial stand run-in:

I changed from 29 lbs/hr injectors to 24 lbs/hr injectors... 2 reasons, 1) physically moves the fuel rail out about 1" … the 24 lbs/yr injectors are 1" longer than the 29 lbs/hr injectors. That gives one more inch clearance between the fuel rail and the headers... a good thing for helping keep the heat down in the fuel rail. That necessitated making new mounting brackets for the fuel rail. 2) Smaller injectors will allow a longer pulse width at idle so it should be a bit easier to dial in the idle... they are still plenty big for top end since these injectors will easily accommodate a 3.8 liter engine. The longer injectors will necessitate a slight modification to the drivers footbox... which I had hoped to avoid but decided it will be worth the effort to get the fuel rail a bit further from the headers. I did the same modification on my last EFI car so I've been-there-done that.

The head gasket was "weeping" a bit of antifreeze... not much but a bit. I confirmed that the water was not going into the internal of the engine by having the oil analyzed at Blackstone Labs... but still didn't like it, so pulled the head and determined that the head gasket (all cooper) was at fault, so put in a new one. While I was at it I put in ARP head bolts (probably should have done this the first time but since the head have never been off it seemed like it was a waste of money, but this time having stretched the head bolts, yet again, didn't want to chance it... so dumped the originals.) Ran the engine again, no weeping of fluids this time.

There was a slight vacuum leak around the manifold... probably could have resolved it with sealer (engine builder doesn't like to use sealer on manifold gaskets). I pulled the manifold and had it "fly-cut" by a machinist... took about 12 thousands to get it perfectly level. Back on … looks good.

We've also upgraded the MegaSquirt tuning program. Plenty of mapping to do, but happy with the initial testing (actually the 3rd run-in tests).

So with all that done... packed it up and brought it home!
