AH 3000 steering box lubrication

I was checking out the thread on "steering rack lubrication" in Spridgets, and it raised a question that I'm faced with. I have a "minor" leak, i.e., less than a quart a day on a Healey, in my steering box. I picked up a bottle of Lucas power steering stop leak. It looks like a 90 weight or more. It's supposed to swell the internal seals. Now I know you troublemakers from warm sunny Southern California will want me to tear down the box and rebuild it, but it's already below zero up here in The Big Igloo, and the garage isn't heated, so I'd rather cheat a bit. Has anyone used this stuff, and does it work?

Cheers Dave

Ninety (90) weight in the Artic North should cure your leaking problem!

A while back (relative term for a 50-something) I replaced the steering box seal with the box still in the car__not too terrible of a job__but yours'll keep until springtime (my garage IS heated and I worked on the steering box standing up).

At one point, I put gear oil in that wound up leaking. I replaced it with the Penrite steering box lube. The stuff was thick enough that I had to heat it with a heat gun to get it to flow into the box. A big horse syringe might have been better, but I don't have any horses. Penrite
