My BT7, (both of them)have the front hood cracked on the left side closer to the driver. When at car shows I notice other AHs with the same problem in the same place.

What causes this and how do I fix it?

and then how do I keep it from happening again?

Thanks Basil for getting me back on line today.

I had both the hoods(bonnet) strengthened during my restorations on my 67 and 64 . The bonnet on my 64 cracked close to the hinge support on the drivers side . What I did was easy . Get some round bar 3/8"or 5/16" cant remember exactly and cut a piece about a foot long and put it in the u shape lip at the edge of the bonnet both sides . Bend over the lip to meet the round bar and weld it in place . Unless you lift the bonnet and look closely you cant see it and it stops the bonnet flex/crack .

I am always careful to close the hood anytime I have it open, because I have heard of such problems (never saw them). I push in the side safety catches to get them past the shroud, then I gently push directly over the lock mechanism to close fully. I would imagine you would transfer a bit of stress on the hinges if you push on the front to force the catches over the shroud.
