AH 100-6 57' am reciever

Hi guys /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

My newly imported AH 100-6 of 1957 has a AM radio / reciever installed - whether it's original or not, I do not know - but it looks very old.

It's recently been tested and seems to operate - the speaker gives the characteristic "dunk" when switching it on.

Now - as far as I know Europe, among others, runs the FM band, so my question to all you unique experts on old cars etc is.....

Is it a hard job, and what's the procedure, to have a original AM reciever adjusted / tuned into FM ?

If possible at all of course....

Thanks for your assistance. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

Yours sincerely

Henrik M Larsen, 100-6 1957, BN4L-0-36465.

henrik, hay congratulations on your healey, ya i agree thell have to totally rebuild the inside of the radio the only things that might remain original are the metal box if its got one at all, and the face plate, probably going to be expensive as well. good luck with your healey, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

HI Hendrik

You have already been advised as to the complex conversion of AM -to-FM. However. if you are not bound on originality. There is on US E-bay A Titan 1800 AM/FM Push button radio. The additional advantages of this vintage model is: 1] It will also operate on 6VE or 12VE. 2] It will also operate on either Positive or Negative earth. These radios were built for the 1960's Rover cars.--Fwiw --Keoke

Hi Patton.. thanks... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm pretty new in this forum, and I still haven't found out how to place a pic, in here - I'll guess it's quite simple.

Hmmm... totally internal rebuild of my (most likely) original AM receiver, sorry to hear this, but if that's how it is.

What are you driving and do you have a receiver installed ?

Okay, I'll keep keep on tumbling to get some pic's in here - meanwhile please go to https://www.stinesminde.dk
On this webpage, when scrolling down, you'll find to pics with the radio installed - the page is in Danish, but pic's are international, right...

Have a nice day..... Reg. Henrik

To all of you Healey friends /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif and others, of course..

Are you dead sure - that nothing can be done, I'm so sad to understand, most likely, this orig. Am receiver must have some new modern internal stuff to get back into function.

I'd very much like to keep this issue alive - so any inputs are most welcome, e.g. links for rebuilders, re-tuners, whatever you have got.

Thank you for responding -

Have a nice day.... Reg. Henrik /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

Not to change the subject, but it looks like you've got a Longbridge built 100-6 there. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/winner1.gif

Nice color combo Henrik, you have a Longbridge built 100-Six like mine!! Glad to have you here.

I don't have a radio in my car, but will be installing one at some point. (I actually just bid on the radio Keoke pointed out) You should be able to find vintage appropriate radios in Europe that would work as many of the German radio companies had dual polarity radio units available.

Keep us updated to what you decide.

Try Antique Electronics in Green bay, WI @ 920-434-3489. They repair car radios and may do conversions or they may be able to direct you to the proper people.

Tell them the folks at the Iola Old Car Show told you to call...it won't save you any $$$ but they advertise in our show directory.

Hi Hendrik, It is necessary that we understand that AM radio modulation and FM modulation are as different as night and day. Consequently, converting from AM Reception to FM requires a complete rebuild of the AM receiver. The average cost to convert one is just shy of 300.00 USD. One company that I am familiar with and you may want to contact is; "Vintage Car Radio.Com here in the US. Regards--- Keoke

Henrik - Great looking Longbridge with the carbs, the locking door, and the central window washer. Do you also have the glass window washer fluid bottle?
thanks for sharing the photos - Jim

Hi Healey guys

Well, back from two days in Sweden - Thanks for all of your pro. inputs, all af them sunds interesting.

I'll have to see what to do about this receiver.

Jim.. no I don't have the glass window washer fluid bottle, but I might be able to purchase one from AHSpares.

Now, another issue is that my condenser in/on the fuel pump looks blown up - Do any of you have an idea where to get hold of a condenser ?

Thanks and a nice weekend to all of you

Big Healey /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif hug

Henrik

Hi Hendrix, Assuming that that component is a condenser and not one of the more modern Diode Resistor suppressors. You can go to any Radio parts stockist and get a 0.047 Micro Farad Component with a working voltage of 600 Volts. A Modern Mylar type would be my preference. Additionally, "Burlens" in the UK can probably supply you with either type part in its original form--Regards-- Keoke

Hi Keoke

Thanks a lot, I was about to invest in a new fuel pump because of this blown up condenser.

The Fpump installed seems to be pretty new, so I would be kind of sorry if it was'nt posible to get my hands on a new condenser.

Thanks for sharing knowledgement /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

Have a nice weekend / Henrik

Glad to help you out. Keep the Motor Helmet down tight and you will be alright.---Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yep Hendrix, that should do the trick. Now your pump is no longer polarity sensitive.-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif-----Keoke

AH 100-6 57' car number - Longbridge

Hello out there.

Back again.... Do any of you have an idea of how to trace a car, my Healey's a BN4L, with number 036465, this must refer to Longbridge production of the early models of the 100-6.

Does there exist any reliable listing on the internet - my interest is to know a little more about the listing of the Longbridge 100six, ex. first car produced to the very last before moving production to Abingdon.

Thanks /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif and kind regards
Denmark, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif Henrik Mellergaard Larsen

Re: AH 100-6 57' car number - Longbridge

The L refers to Left Hand Drive and the 0 in front of the 36465 is for overdrive. Mine is 33661 and was built in Jan of 57'. I am not aware of the exact number change over or first production number of the model being available on the net but if you find out please pass the info along. Patton has a site at https://austin-healeys.com/ that has a lot of info on the 100-6

Re: AH 100-6 57' car number - Longbridge

Hendrik - you also should check out Derek Job's site https://www.healeysix.net. It will tell you all you want to know about the Longbridge BN4's, including the production changes.
Also we are always looking for new members to the Longbridge BN4 2porthead registry. send me a note at bn4_2porthead@hotmail.com

Best of luck with your Longbridge - jim
