MGB Aftermarket wheels

I have a question about something I have zero previous experience with. I purchased for my MGB (4 lug hubs, not spline) project a set of very nice looking 70's vintage 14x6 inch alloy custom wheels that were reported to have been removed from an MGB-GT. The hole pattern is proper, but these are wheels that have very large holes which need inserts between the stud and the wheel. These were NOT included. There are a wide variety of these inserts - but I know nothing about getting the right ones. Since the holes in the wheel have no taper, I am assuming that the inserts need to be a tight (almost press-in tight) fit to eliminate play, and the inserts will have some kind of taper for the lug nuts to center up on? I have found a couple different inserts that feel too loose to me - they can visually move around in the wheel hole. There doesn't APPEAR to be any elongation or obvious wear in the holes of the wheels themselves.

So does anyone have experience using this kind of wheel/insert setup that could lend advice?

Examine the wheels to find stampings to indicate who the manufacturer was. That'll narrow down the choices. Posting a pic will help too since someone might have the same wheels on their car

I'll add that you might contact Hap Waldrop at Acme Speed Shop in S. Carolina. He's a member here, but haven't "seen" him in a while.

I don't have to do much examining - they still have their original sticker on them. Made by a company (apparently no longer in existance) called "Appliance" - Appliance WireMag 14x6. I don't have a photo handy and it will be a couple weeks before I can get back out to where they (and the car) are. The current Moss catalog with the blue GT on the cover has very similar wheels in the picture.

Your description of those large holes for the lugs sounds like they are the later wheels using Roto lug adapters. Basically they are threaded inserts that go in the wheel and those inserts have the actual holes for the lugs in them - offset to allow the wheels to fit different diameter bolt patterns by changing the orientation of the adapters.
You'll need the proper Roto adapters as well as 1/2"x20 lug nuts to mate with them. Various Ebay sellers have them. You'll just need to verify the dimensions...
