TR4/4A Aftermarket seats in TR4?

Hi all,

Has anyone installed aftermarket seats in their TR4-6, who cares to share their opinions about them?

I'm looking at something along the line of Corbeau Clubman with headrest. I'm a little concerned these are 20" wide. The original seats in my car are 18" wide and there's not a lot of room to spare.

Does anyone have any other models and brands they would recommend, similar to the Clubman or other appropriate "period" racing seats?

Thanks in advance, for your opinions and advice!

Alan

I installed Corbeau Classic Buckets in my 63 tr4 last year. I opted for the head rests and inflatable lumbar support. I used the universal flat slider to mount them. I had to remove the lower cushion and reduce the foam by about 50% so I could sit low enough to clear the top frame. My car is a surrey. These seats are a bit slippery for autocross but are very comfortable. I think the lumbar support is well worth the expense. I am 5'11" and 205 lb. I fit the seat ok but I would not want much more of me to migrate south as the fit is snug. The seats look good in the car, not too modern.

Alan, I installed the Suffolk seats from Vicky Brit in my TR6. The seats look great, have excellent headrests and are way more comfortable than the OE seats in the 6. Downside: Not that easy to install (have to drill two new holes for the reat mounts) and I question the quality (frame finish not a baked on paint). The seats are very close in overall appearance to Triumph seating and I can now drive for hours without a backache. The lumbar support is very good, with good lateral support wings.

Alan, I installed an aftermarket seat called a Super seat. It was originally sold by Steel Horse, Now they are sold by Smitty Bilt. Try this web site https://www.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/sgin010...005040319302444
SUPER SEAT VINYL-BLACK 49501 . T did have to make a modification on the seat back so that it would fit around the Top Frame when the top is down but the little effort was wothe it. They look great and are far superior to the OE seats. If you are still interested I can Email you some pictures car and some of a TR250 with the same seats, and the details of the retrofit. Regards
