After Market Valve Cover

I understand the aftermarket valve covers don't have the little deflector plate over the side hose connection like the original ones do. If this is so what do you folks that have them do about extra oil getting sucked into the carbs. Thanks

On the standard twin carb set up I did not seem to have a problem with it. However, when I built my performance engine with triple Strombergs... All of a sudden it became a problem. Richard Good has a set up for an oil catch can/seperator that you can set up to drain the oil back to your sump. You could also rig one yourself with a JEGS or Summit Catalog but wouldn't save much. Then again, YMMV.

I too have a stock carburetor setup and unbaffled aluminum valve cover and have not noticed blowby traveling to the carb. What I have noticed though is no more leaks around the valve cover and no more collapsed valve cover from overtightening. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

They might not collapse but they will crack around the bolt holes. Even with careful tightening. They will fatigue and crack. Also, if you get one make sure it is flat. They are sometimes warped.

I've got one of those aluminium jobs without any baffle. I also run the dual Stromberg carbs, and have no problems with oil getting thru there.

I have a stock valve cover that is chromed that I picked up just incase there were any problems with the un-baffled aluminium cover. It's been a year or so now, and still no problems.

Now, had I not bought that stock chrome valve cover I'm sure I would be desperatly needing it. Is'nt that the way these things work?

My cast aluminum valve cover needed extensive internal grinding and reshaping for it to clear the roller rocker valve train. My new valve springs were actually rubbing against the inside of the cover! There is no baffle inside and I do have the auxiliary oil line. My whole valve train stays soaking wet with oil. Not sure that is good or not so good. I use the GoodParts oil separator to keep oil out of my trips. Works well. Couldn't mount it where Richard suggests, in front of the heater hoses. I mounted it beneath the master cylinder on the flat spot on the inner fender and dropped the oil straight down to the bung I had welded into the pan. Lotta hoses but neatly run.
