After market gas tanks for bugeye

I am wondering if the after market gas tanks, like those most always on eBAY need to be modified to fit on a Bugeye? I am having trouble lining up the fill tube when I line up the bolts that fasten the tank to the floor. It looks like that I could cut off the fuel fill neck and add a splice with the rubber fuel hose that is shown in the usual suspect's catalogs.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL HELP.

What I ended up doing. Along with slotting the filler tube inside the tank after cutting fill tube. Made it fit perfectly and recovered more gas volume as the filler tube stuck inside the tank 1.5".

I've used 2 of those Canadian made, Bugeye tanks that are usually on ebay on 2 different cars. The fit was perfect each time.

Steve, I suspect that I probably ordered and received the wrong tank, a few years ago. Now I need to fix it. Off hand do you have any idea who made or sold these tanks. I would contact them for more info. about the modification I need to make to fix MY problem.

THANK YOU EVERYONE:
I was able to solve my problem with lots of help from others, along with some good advice from Brad @ AUTOSPORTS in Seattle (Ballard). They are always helpful. What I did was purchase a 6" length of 2.25" ID fuel filler hose, cut the tank . tube about half way up the straight part of the tube, slide and clamped the rubber tube over th fill tube. When I am all done including the rubber grommet at the fill cap, I will adjust everything and double clamp both ends of the splice, as Brad suggested. It worked very slick, with a little help of some Vasoline.
