the way the forum has been on and off again lately. Sure is tough to keep caught up on the posts. Cant wait till Basil"s server moves us to the new server. I kinda take it that has happened yet. I have heard an inkling of unrest. Not from me , but it is agravating sometimes, i just hope all are patient.

Mark, you're right. It can be very frustrating at times. But, I'll stick with it, as I'm sure the vast majority of us will.
I'm concerned that the newer members will think this situation is normal, and will give up.
Hang in there, folks!

hmmm, this is strange. Lately the forum has been much better for me. Not sure what is going on. Not sure when the forum will be able to move. My IP is waiting for a new version of their billing software that is compatible with the newer OS that is on the new servers. I've asked for time frame and they can't tell me exactly when they will be ready. But that aside, if you have trouble with pages loading, try leaving it (close browser) for a few minutes then try back again a little while later. When it does slow down, it doesn't seem to last very long. At least not from my end.

ALso, try clearing your cookies and your browser cache, then logging in again. See if that helps any. I'll keep you all posted on the move. I know its frustrating. The only perfect solution is to move to a dedicated server, but I can't afford that just now.

The only time I see a consistent slow-down is very early in the morning. This is not uncommon because it is traditionally a low traffic period, most servers are set to run back-ups or what not during these times. Even so, it's never that drastic. I gather that the server is being shared, if so, other occupants may have uploads or maintenece going on during these times that slogs on the bandwidth a wee bit, but again, the forum is always available very soon thereafter.
This forum is far too valuable (and fun!) to allow a little downtime to deter me. Besides, Miss Agatha is like a little soap opera, have to tune in to see how she's doing.

I've had no trouble for awhile....I am usually on late in the evening or very early morning.....Even when I was having trouble, nothing could deter me from this forum!

I think in general things have gotten better. Not perfect, but better. Maybe someday when I'm rich and famous I can afford to get a dedicated server and that would really help things. Who knows, maybe one of these days if the place keeps growing (and I have no reason to believe it won't).

Basil

This AM it got a bit slow (35~55 second load times) then non-responsive for less than an hour between 4:30 and 5:30 EST... NO BIGGIE!!! Much better than it has been in the past. It did kludge yesterday afternoon for about the same amount of time, around 1400 EST. I just "step AWAY from the machine" and come back later. In the AM I go brew up and return to keep trying. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

not able to sleep at night Dr ?

I'm not leaving, but I have seen a few people complain that they were tired of this site going down every day and consider going to other sites. I really hope the server issues are able to be sorted out. Basil sure has more patience than I would with that ISP. They are lucky he isn't at their door step with a machete!

I'm here so long as my blood hasn't reached room temperature!

I am currently exploring other options. That's all I can say right now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For spridgets there is no other site. I think I have checked em all. This is Miss Agathas home and here she will stay.

Couldn't image being anywhere else. I've not managed to really stay with any other site for very long, and I've been here now for 1.5 years or so. If this site were to dissapear tomorrow, I would, in all truth, have to determine if I could really keep the car. As a technical novice living in the boonies by and large, I rely on this community to keep me going.

As a webmaster and developer myself, I can appreciate the issues Basil has been dealing with. If I ever win the lottery, I'll endow the BCF with a nice, fast, dedicted server. Until then, even with occasional slowdowns it's still the best resource out there.

Besides, y'all are my friends, even if I've only met one of you in person!

I remember when chuck cougill first told me about the BCF...it was a slow little place (not much activity) but friendly & chock full of great information...over the last few years, though, the BCF has undergone a tremendous spurt of growth & with that growth have come the "birthing pains of a new order" (tell me who said that first, hehehe)....Basil is doing, what I think is, a great job of trying to keep up with that growth....unlike MGBE & some other BBS', Basil's is still a hobby & he's putting a lot of his own money into keeping it updated through the growth - instead of making money off the BBS (one reason I chose to become a supporting vendor) - ain't success great?!?

I'm willing to put up with the occassional slowdown until he gets things sorted out...& I know he's working hard to solve the problem...

I now have the image of Basil sending out the bats in the middle of the night........

Seriously, I am not experiencing too much trouble, the occasional slowdown but it's not an issue. As for other boads, this is really the only one that I participate in. I have no need for another.
