Aeronca65t

He's fine (or was last time I talked to him), just been busy with other things in life right now. He had indicated he may be back later when things settle down a bit.

Thanks Bas,

Funny how you get to think of online friends as buds to look out for. Glad to hear he's ok.

I find myself wondering about members who have "gone missing" all the time, especially folks who had been very active and then suddenly - poof - you don't see them any longer. I wonder, did they die? Did they sell their car? Are they ill?

You're right. It's like living in a small town, but your neighbors may be miles apart. If I croaked tomorrow, probably no one would know to tell my BCF friends goodbye. Have to start working on that holographic image farewell.

Like Billy (Kelly'sguy).

I know why some folks left, for example Mark (Silentunicorn) sadly no longer has his LBC. But when someone seems to go missing and I happen to notice it, I'll ofter contact them to see if they are ok. Happily, in 15 years, I've only had to ban a few. I could count them on one hand and have fingers left over. Not bad considering the number of folks we have registered. A couple have left because they didn't like the way we moderate the forum to keep controversial topics off limits. (I've given up trying to please everyone - ain't possible).

There are plenty of other websites to go to if you want to discuss (state your opinion?) controversial topics. The BCF is fine just the way it is; Thank You very much!

I too really appreciate the way BCF is run.

But ... I have yet to find an internet forum or website anywhere to discuss anything "touchy" (religions, economies, governments, etc.). Thousands of people yelling at each other with ad hominems, endless contradictions, pastes from other sites, and made up facts - yes. But actual discussion? Sadly, no.

If anyone has suggestions - please PM me!

Thanks.

Even this topic can get out of hand if it goes on enough. Reason I stay away from this type of subject.
Basil, You are doing a fine job and I personally would not change a thing on how this site is run. I found out many years ago that you will never please everyone, no matter how hard you work at it. I know, I've been hiring and (not so haply) firing guys for over 40 years in the heavy construction business and you would be amazed at some of the reasons. The world is full of funny people, it's just some are more serious than others. :highly_amused: PJ

Tom, that has been going on since the founding of this country (and centuries before that). Putting together the Constitution, for example, was anything but a nice, friendly get together. The arguments were heated and the passions intense. It's called human nature. People - most people, with the possible exception of Buddhist Monks - can get very passionate about subjects that may be near and dear to their hearts and, like belly buttons, everyone has an opinion.

You're right that there are not many (probably none) places where hot topics can be discussed dispassionately, and the internet is full of people yelling and name-calling and not engaging in critical thinking. Just read the comments sections of most news site. Sadly, the internet and the ability to be vicious towards people anonymously has made the world, and this country, more divided than ever. That's one of the reasons I made the decision from day one to keep those kinds of topics that can inflame passions OFF this forum.

I know I have not always done things as smoothly as I could and that sometimes I have ruffled feathers, but I have honestly tried to provide a place where people can come and discuss this hobby without the cacophony of harshness that is so common on other sites. I also know that sometimes I have let my frustrations with things seep into the forum management and for that I apologize, but, and I know this is hard to believe, I'm only human too. I know I'm not perfect at it and I can't please everyone, but I do try my best, for whatever that's worth.

Completely agree with you! And ... don't change a thing here at BCF!

Great decision!!! Keep up the Excellent Work!!!

UPDATE: Just FYI, I heard back from Nial and, as I suspected, he is busy busy busy. He just has so many irons in the fire, some family related, some personal, some professional, that something had to give and that something was BCF (and to some extent even is Facebook time). I got tired just reading the list of things he's up to! Anyway, I suspect we'll see him again down the road when things settle down and he gets a bit of free time again. Bottom line, he sends his regards to all and he is, in fact, alive and well.

I haven't posted in quite awhile but I'm still alive and kickin'...nobody seems to have missed me though.
