Advice needed on choice of engine

Don't want to upset any purists, but I need advice on which MG-TD to buy. While searching to buy one, I've driven some that were 100% authentic. However, I've come to the sad onclusion that in the intense density and rush of the city where I live, I must choose between more modern engines & transmissions -- both for safety reasons as well as reliability (I'm not a mechanic). I am now caught between two possibilities and would deeply appreciate anyone's thoughts on which would be better: A TD body with an MG-B engine & trans or one that has a Chevette engine + trans. Thanks!
p.s. Kudos to Basil for his recent award!

If you're talking about a daily-driver then you might want a "modernized" TD; if you're going to the extent of getting one with a Chevette engine and drivetrain (I didn't know anyone ever did that to a REAL TD) you might as well go find a nice replica and have fun with it (an opinion).

As for being able to cope with modern traffic, etc, we have a couple of TCs in our club. One of them gets driven quite a lot and keeps up with traffic just fine, even on the highways.

buy the B engine car, at least it will look original, or buy one of those VW replicas and save some money. I'm not in any way a purist (you should see what I'm doing to a B) but a chevette conversion is too much.

Are mushrooms out already??
