Adjustment of hand break BN6

As you can see in the attached photo, the handbrake lever of my BN6 is very vertical and the braking effect is not very good. I tried to adjut it using the fork of the handbrake cable locatd at the near of the right wheel in the back. But I did noch succeed. Anybody out there with an advice for better adjustment?

The fork on the end of the cable has limited adjustment--if you screw it in too far the thread on the end of the cable hits the lever, even if you have more thread to work with. I had to trim some of the threaded end off to get more adjustment. Like Steve suggested, it's not uncommon for the bracket to break from its mounting (I think there's just a couple small welds securing it).
