On my BT7 I cannot get the big black lock nut loose. Any ideas?

I tried a flexable type oil wrench but could not get it loose.

I don't have a BT7, but I do have an adjustable steering wheel and I don't think that there are too many versions.

I don't remember any big black lock nut anywhere between the horn button and the front end of the steering box. What are you REALLY trying to describe ?

IF you are talking about the the bumpy, black, plastic ring between the back of the steering wheel and the dash that keeps the steering wheel from sliding forward and back, it's pretty easy, but there is a trick to it.

Unless you have VERY STRONG hands, get a proper strap wrench and while holding the steering wheel immobile, turn the bumpy, black, plastic ring CLOCKWISE !

Because you are looking at the threads from the other end, it appears to be backwards from normal.

If you can get a grip on the ring and turn it CW, it should come right off.

If you really don't have an adjustable steering wheel, do what Keoke says....

Hi Tim, I think he is referring to the " Nut Steering Wheel to Column"------Keoke

Yea... Prolly so...

I have a 100-6 Adjustable S/Wheel and the ONLY nut on mine is the one that holds on the Pittman Arm.

I guess the BT-7 and the 100-6 ARE different.

Thanks.

Tim

Yes its the black plastic one I cannot get loose. I did not know which way to turn it. I am working 2 jobs right now so I just now got back to the post. Sorry.

THanks for the help. I have to really schedule my Healey time.
