Adjustable steering wheel removal

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

The adjustable steering wheel of my BJ7 will not come off (when sitting behind the wheel). I have already ruined the plastic ring:sorrow:
The collar should be turned clockwise to loosen, correct?

Any good tips to get the .... off?

Have you first removed the horn/trafficator assembly and the circlip on the end of the column that holds the steering wheel on?

Yep, those are removed.

Use a rubber strap wrench to grip the collar also use a rubber mallet and tap all around the collar to break the age bond prior to using the strap wrench .

Finally got it off. Spline was heavily damaged. Unfortunately the steering wheel did not make it through the battle....
