Adding air conditioning to a 1974 MGB, Good morning all,
I am a new member and seeking advice, I am installing air conditioning on a 1974 MGB. I purchased all the components from retro air in Texas. my main question is mounting the compressor and the best place to mount it. my online research shows removing the alternator and mounting the compressor where the alternator was, and then move the alternator above that. retro air could not provide me with brackets just the components so I will have to fabricate all my own brackets and figure out the fan belt layout, any suggestions would be helpful thank you.

I've attached two files that you may find helpful....or not. One is a fax image of two original brackets for the compressor and alternator. Unfortunately, there are no dimensions shown but, if you print it out on letter size paper it may be close.
The other file is the installation instruction manual for the original dealer installed AC system. A few pages down you'll see an exploded diagram (upside down!) which includes those two brackets along with all the other components.

Thank you everyone, that is an incredible amount of information. I was not expecting that. I am so glad I joined the forum and asked the question. I will let you guys know how it goes again thanks much.

can't speak to any of the above comments but I always figured a hot rod setup might be an easy solution
