As Bill the Cat used to say

Can't get any pressure when I spin my oil pump on the Wedge.
How long is it suppose to take?

How long?

depends on how fast you're spinning ...

:jester:

Midget 1500 takes a little bit of time, about 15-30 seconds and it's pretty worn. Sure your signal is doin' what it's sapossda?

Got my Dewalt on fast ,for about 30+ seconds

Clock wise as it says in the book and was confirmed by some one else
Just stuck it on my Old Milwaukee electric for over a minute and nada.
can't think what I did wrong

Have to ask. right direction?

Like we've never done that before (I know I have ...).

About an hour ago I was talking with a guy with long-term engine overheating problems. After some yammering and examining, we found he'd installed the thermostat backwards. Been that way for several years.

T.

Some did .
I did it the last time
I thought I could get away from doing it this time as I didn't remove the pump from the cover.

Did you check the dip-stick for oil :jester:

Don -

All kidding aside, pack the oil pump with Vaseline. Troubles are over. Period.

It should firm up on you within 20 seconds or so. If that doesn't work, you have two options. Drop the cover and pack with P jelly or add several more quarts of oil and try again. Once it's primed, make sure you drain off the extra oil. Make sure you fill the new oil filter before spinning it on.

Well I know that is backwards so, I would be afraid of what might happen
I might suck all the light out of the garage

No, that won't happen.... you will just get negative oil pressure.

I am rackin my brain to see if I did something wrong .
I am trying to imagine the what it is behind the front cover .

So , the cam drives a gear that spins the dizzy which is connected to the oil pump.

I can't remember what the pump is connected to????

A black hole ? Then don't do it, the timing isn't right. Just wait until December 21.

There's not a whole lot to go wrong with an oil pump, so I doubt you could have put it together wrong. It sounds like it is just dry, so cannot draw enough vacuum to lift the oil. You have to think of a way to "wet" the pump, and it should start drawing fine. Some options are mentioned above...others off the top of my head are:

Open a passage to the oil gallery and pour oil down it, which will find its way to the pump at the bottom...something like the tappet block, or even removing the oil filter and shooting oil down the hole...

Ad too much oil and/or tilt the car to get the pump below the level of the oil in the pan...

Spin the pump shaft for several minutes...time is not a factor, but speed is. You need enough vacuum to lift the oil, and it will lift slowly.

Remove the filter and put a vacuum to the hole leading to the pump to suck the oil up.

Of course, the next time, it is advisable to use grease or thick oil to prime the pump during the installation...in any engine where the pump is above te level of oil in the pan.

Best of luck!

John
