It would be an understatement to say that having access to a professional sandblasting set up has utterly transformed the fun of working a restoration project it. Holy cow what a difference than trying to clean things at home with the usual methods.

Agreed. I finally broke down and took the frame of my 59 TR3A to the sandblaster. I would have struggled with it for more than a week with my home set up and probably used more material cost that what it actually cost me to have someone else do it in less than 2 hours.

Where were you with this advice, say, 5 years ago? Ha.

5 years ago I was waiting for the price to come down. Worth the wait. Got mine a month ago. Tom

Another useful alternative to elbow grease is the vibratory tumbler from Harbor Freight:

https://www.harborfreight.com/5-lb-metal-vibrator-tumbler-67617.html

At about $42 (with the usual 20% off coupon) it compares favorably with the more expensive units. Used with this media:

https://www.harborfreight.com/5-lbs-rust-cutting-resin-abrasive-media-93832.html

...it does a fine job on nuts and bolts. Probably not worth it for day-to-day work but if you're taking the whole car apart it is a handy thing and no more work that running a load of plates in the dishwasher.
