AC fuel pump

dadgummit, can't find the list of the places where you can get repair kits for the AC brand fuel pumps.

Somebody have that handy? I would be most grateful.

Thanks, put a request in, we'll see.

thanks,
The pump's been on there since I've owned the car, over 25 years. I am a little nervous about going too far from home without changing the diaphram to one that resists the alcohol.

The kit from Then & Now will resist the new fuels that eat the diaphragms. Fuel Pump Kits from Then & Now Automotive, Weymouth, MA (Part #AC0058)

Better pictures of the new style kit, valves and parts are here from my latest pump rebuild program.

6-Pack Fuel Pump Failure thread

Since I'm not a member over there it wouldn't let me see the pictures.

But tonight's project is to get the numbers off the old pump and then call then and now

You don't have to be a member to use the 6-Pack Forum. No pressure will be put on you to join, either.
Just choose a screen name and password, and you should be set to go. Then just log in and view the pictures.

FWIW, I was very pleased with the TR3 pump kit I got from TRF. Seemed like better quality (and included the elusive shaft seal) than even the previous kit (which came in an AC box).

looked breifly on TRF's site and couldn't find a kit for a pump mounted to a Spitfire.

dunno if they can cross it to something else or not.

Ha! I did the same thing when you first posted this thread -- and I had the same (no) luck. It might be worth a call to TRF to ask if they've anything? There were a whole lot of Spitfires that used that pump, so....

well I gave them my name so they let me in  Just dug the pump off the Spit.

No numbers whatsover. <sigh> A type F on the bottom and a type J on the top.

I probably cobbled the darn thing together at some point in the last 25 years.

Steve,

If you call Now & Then, they will have a good kit for you. I have no financial interest, I just know their quality.

Ok, just ordered the kit. letcha know how things go.

Thanks for posting the great images, Paul. Brings back memories.

When my TR250 "found" me back in 1996, a fuel pump overhaul was the first repair on it I attempted. I think I got my kit from TRF. Went together fine, and I even rebuilt another one to keep as a backup.

I was so proud of the first one I did. I had not tried anything like that before! Still works, too.

Of course, it all turned into a five year frame-off restoration...

Somehow Mike, that is what these small rebuild jobs turn into after a while. If you look at my website, you will see the proof of that.

But it's fun and it keeps me at home....

For Steve: Follow Paul's instruction.

The AC pumps are kinda generic, been used on TONS of other cars. NAPA may also be a fair source of good kits, but TRW has specific experience.

Doc,

The key to these kits from Then & Now is that they do a ton of rebuilding for the classic car market, not only of fuel pumps but many other parts. I spoke to the owners in 2009 after reading about many of the diaphragms being eaten up by bad fuel. He had seen this occur for nearly a year on the pumps that they had sent it to their shop they and developed a source for diaphragms made from the same materials as in the aircraft grade pumps that they rebuild.

I really need to add a new page to my web site for the second rebuild as the one before was done with TRF kits that did not have the well shaft seal included at that time. That is what led me to seeking another source and they ended up nearly being in my back yard.

In fairness to TRF, they now offer kits with the well shaft seal included, but I like these better.

Apparently T&N has found a good answer to ethanol degradation. Good to know!
