AC fan motor question

A fan motor question that might save me a trip to the
dealer.

2007 Jeep Wrangler- four speed fan motor switch for my
air conditioning. Only the top speed setting functions.
Speed settings 1, 2 and 3 do not engage the blower fan.

Is this a repair I can make myself? Or is the fan blower
motor shot and I need to take it to the dealer? I rewired
my entire TR6 so I'm not totally brain dead when it comes
to wires and such.

thanks for any input. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Dale, it sounds like the blower resistor is the likely culprit. Should be a painless fix, and the resistor should be available at any good parts house, if such exists on the island. The resistor controls the three lower speeds, and on high it's bypassed completely. Just the fact that the motor works normally on high indicates it's OK.
After a little further research, it seems as though there may be a separate fuse for this, too. Located behind the glove box, as is the resistor. Take a look at that, too.

No luck so far.

Fuses all OK. Don't know what a resistor looks like.

Spent almost an hour trying to Google a wiring
schematic. No luck

Dale, the resistor should be a block plugged into the heater plenum, behind the glove box, possibly held down by a couple of screws. It should have a three wire connector plugged into it. (Maybe 4 wire, I'm not certain.)

Hey Dale,
Have you checked any of the Jeep forums? I found an '03 shop manual HERE . I couldn't search this SITE , you need to register.

Thanks Greg,

That's one I missed. I'll join tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks again. I'm trying to NOT have to leave my boulder
bouncer at the dealer's for a week to make the simple
repair.

Thanks Jeff,
I'll look for it in daylight tomorrow.

My Red Mako going in for engine preventive maintainence
tomorrow. 200 hours so far and runs like a Swiss watch.
Fuel line pressure is 115 psi at the injectors!! Can you
believe it?
