About to rebuild front end...any tips?

Next week I am going to start tearing down the front suspension and wanted to get some tips/advice before I go crazy. The front end has been converted to disc brakes, and I put in urethane upper trunion bushings already. The front end does have play, assume its the kingpin? Anyhow, I was going to get the major rebuild kit from Moss and go from there.

Yes, it can be play in the kingpins and their bushings.

But can also be the fulcrum pins (#12) at the bottom of the kingpin. If they are loose, it's often partly due to wear in the lower A-arm and not just the pin (so just swapping the pin won't really fix it....the A-arm may need to be swapped too).

Can also be loose wheel bearings and the rubber bushing (#11) on the inner pivot of the A-arm.

VB in their catalog that just showed up has wishbones on sale for $99.95 per side. That's a great price. Major suspension kit also on sale IIRC for $50 off. Peter C can do reaming on kingpin bushings. Taking things apart a reciprocating saw us your best tool. You can cut right through bolts at the chassis mounts, sorry about bushings but likely the old stuff will be rusted in place. Metal bushings on wishbones are likely worn with a sale price of $99.95 per side, cheaper than sending out to be changed out.

Think about out replacing bearings while apart. Another wear point.
 
I need to send some shocks off to Peter C. anyhow, maybe I'll talk to him and see what he can do with the bushings. Thanks for the help guys
 
I talked to Peter last week as he will be receiving spindles and kingpins from FedEx Thursday. His advice was buy new vs getting re bushing done. At $200 a set you are money ahead with new wishbones. My wishbones to have Apple Hydraulics redo ran $225 plus shipping to get them there. If yiu have a set of wishbones from a RB car rebush as they as built heavier than BE wishbones. Otherwise go new while on sale .
 
Much easier to use Peter C for the entire front end...one stop shop. His prices are very good, quality of work and turn around time are great and you save on shipping from multiple sources. If your calipers and shocks need rebuilding, there is no better place or time to get it done.
