It's finally true! My trusty G15 and her sweet little power plant have finally been separated. Engine and transaxle are now sitting on a dolly, the car is still on the ramp, but with her rear end sticking waaay up in the air. Admonitions from the monkey wrench *NOT* to put the ramp up for any reason whatsoever. With her new stance, the garage door won't clear her rear if she's in the air!!

He promised me it wasn't painful and she never felt a thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

heh. It'll all be better by 'n by.

Patienza, bambino... Patienza.

hmmmmmmmmmm, do you have any photos of that naked butt up in the air?

Awright, Tony - time out for you! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You know, the minute I read that, I thought the same thing as Tony.
Is that a *bad* sign? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Anywho, what are you and Mr. Racing Girl doing to that thing?
Rebuild?
Racy Rebuild?
I bet a WRX engine and trans would fit in nicely! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Mickey - may I come out of the corner now?

Well, that’s the million dollar question isn’t it? Apart from the fact that finding a 998cc in this country is next to impossible, and modifying the current 875cc would be very difficult due to it’s construction…. to be honest, I’m not sure! A pokier engine would be fantastic to have, especially on longer journeys on the freeway with our local car club – it would definitely make touring easier.

Part of the rationale behind it is that in our 16 years of ownership the engine/transaxle have never been out of the car, not that we have any reason to suspect it needs work either. With the engine out Mr RG will also be able to complete the upgrade of all the plumbing, there were some fittings he just couldn’t get to before. Also, the carbon release bearing is on it’s way out, and the only way to get to it was to drop the engine/trans, a little design flaw no doubt!

He leaves for England tomorrow night for a 10 day trip… his first port of call on landing is to Transimp, and he has spent a lot of time on Reg Pattens website in the last few days too. Maybe he’s planning on surprising me…. I *know* an Imp head will fit in his suitcase!

WRX engine! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif There are a couple of VERY interesting bike engined G15's running around in the club in the UK, plus one with an Alfa engine in it too! Much more interesting.

I was just trying to be considerate.
Besides, I think you still have the cattle prod.

Ooooh...OOOOH!!! An Alfa power'd G15!!! Bespoke, t'would be.

DO THAT!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A WRX mill would be a "Prosecutable Offence" IMHO.

And take lots and lots of piccies of th' process?

OTOH; that Imp head ain't bad neither. I reckon a lot less "R & D" involved.

Might I say that I don't find the WRX mill that offensive in terms of a blank-slate transplant. It's a nice engine -- not too heavy. Maybe a little peaky, but certainly a nice character given the Ginetta's personality.

An Acura Integra/RSX plant might also be interesting. As long as we're on Japanese engines -- either a Mazda rotary or turbo-Miata.

But honestly, I'd stick with small British plant. As crazy as I'd go would be a Coventry Climax

The biggest issue with dropping any other type of engine in a G15 is the clearance, both within the chassis rails and with the ground clearance - there's not much room. Let me rephrase that. There IS no room! Andrew was on the phone today from England, enthusing about an Imp in the London area who's owner has fuel injected the engine, did all the mappings himself too. Very sweet apparently.

Sammy - I thought the Imp engine was a derivative of the Coventry Climax. FWMA (Feather Weight Marine Application) or some such wasn't it? Or have I got the letters mixed up as usual!!
