DrE! if "U" be cautious the Blue wire go to the coil of the head light relay which energises the headlight circuit and saves de switch.-Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
thanks keoke - is there another way of searching the archives, other then using the keyword search at the bottom of the page? lots of stuff (all good) to get through.
there is the possibility that the wire is in question is no longer in use, even though my car is a 76, the PO has reverted the car to an "older" version. the airpump is gone and i am sure all sorts of things have been changed/removed.
the white with blue wire in question can also be found in a 3 wire plug that is not pluggend into anything. the wires in question are white, white/blue and white with black. checking the ohm, the white with blue does connect to the white with blue at the fuse panal (as does the white)
Does anyone know what would normally be plugged in to this harness? (3 female) also, you can notice a green (ground?) wire not connected to anything near the alt. not sure what to do with that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The white and the white/black are ignition. White should be the coil V+ (supply voltage), the white/black is the trigger wire from the dizzy to the coil... or ~should~ be. It appears your PO deep-sixed the external ballast resistor (using white/blue wire) in favour of an internally ballasted coil. Things look a bit "non-standard" there for sure. Not certain about your green mystery wire. It would NOT be a ground! That's solid black in MG's.
The alternator should have three brown (two with yellow tracer) wires attached with a connector.
ok, i know what that plug is supposed to do,
it takes the:
WB from ignition coil
WU from Ditributer resistor
W from ballist wire and connects them to the distributer
I am guesing that the 76 originaly came with some kind of electronic advance, but my car has been retrofitted to a vaccuum advance. being that there is only one wire going to the distr. (and no vaccuum house of course!)
unless someone can find a compelling reason otherwise, i am leaving the wire unplugged for now.
