Do NOT ever bother volunteering to R&R the radiator in a Dodge Caravan. I just did it and it was NOT fun.

Just another FYI courtesy of Chaos & Mayhem PTY., LTD. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Same probably applies to all small vans. I did the spark plugs on a Ford Aerostar V6 once. Only once. World's longest extension, in through the wheel wells. Some things are worth paying someone else to do. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

This thing belongs to my Fiat 124 pal, she had an overheat in traffic last Friday and we gave it a pressure test Saturday AM... PLASTIC rad leaking at the fitting around the trans cooler inlet. Feh. Scrap, the lot of 'em. I volunteered to do the swap since she's got scheduled work ('nother IT consultant) and I had an "open" day. She may get hit with a consultation fee. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif I did/had one of them ONCE (that was enough!!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

Drew,

I did our Aerostar - ONCE!
Although I went into it expecting a lot of
aguish + taking a long time.It wasn't as bad
as I thought it'd be.
Of course,I could've done it in 1/2 the
time after that.
Try a heater core in a Fairmont,Mustang,or
any other Fox chassied Ford.8 hours flat rate.
I've done 2 of those.

FYI R&R only means "Rest and Relaxation" to me. I prefer a lounge chair, but I suppose a radiator would work in a pinch.

Kind of like replacing the battery in a Dodge Intrepid. I found out after messing with it for a while that you must remove the right front wheel before getting it out. Not sure who came up with that idea.

I think next time, I will let someone with lift replace it.

You should try a Fox body *without* AC, it literally takes
20 minutes, I did it in Rockettes '83 Mustang Convertible
and still remember how...

Remove glove box, remove cover on heater box, remove clamps and
hoses under the hood, remove heater core, install heater core,
replace cover, glove box, heater hoses and clamps under the hood,
bleed the system, start the engine, check for leaks... Done...

Bah, try changing the plastic camshaft gear (now THAT's a great design... NOT) on a GM 2.5 Iron Duke motor on a front wheel drive car. Then, since you have to take the motor out, go ahead and change that infamous GM power steering rack that's got a bad case of "morning sickness". It must be easier to get to with the engine out, right? Well, it was until you find out the rack was bolted onto the front frame BEFORE the front frame was attached to the car, making it impossible to remove the steering rack bolts without dropping the lower frame. Don't forget that transmission still has to be supported as you raise the car and drop the frame because the half shafts are still connected. Talk about FUN.

I also had an early '80's Buick X car....
.... I like to call it my "EX car".
It had a V6 that threw a rod (or something like that).
Anyway,I paid a friend of mine (still is)$50 to help me
swap it out.His Wife almost wouldn't talk to me after
that.What a deal I got.
