TR4/4A A-type solenoid need a gasket where it mounts to the gearbox?

I believe so, but mine was long gone. OK to just make one from gasket making sheet? Does the material matter? How about thickness?

Are you talking about between the solenoid and the solenoid mounting plate? If so, there is no gasket needed.

But there is definitely a gasket required between the mounting plate and main body. The original was fiber I believe. Thickness would have some small impact on operating pressure, but you'll want to check and shim that anyway.
 
Hi Randall, sorry for not being clear. I was asking about where the vertical solenoid body is attached with two screws to the plate so it can pull up on the lever.
 
Like Randall said there is no gasket there, no need for any sealing. There is a rubber boot below the solenoid that keeps debris out of the solenoid piston.
 
Thanks guys - got it in and installed and wired ok.

Now to deal with why it isn't releasing..... Hopefully just an adjustment issue.
