A tool of sorts

Great score today. A 1926 glass oil bottle complete with
metal funnel spout/top and cork seal for the top.
The Master Mfg Co. Litchfield Ill.
Tax paid Sept. 14th 1926.
Glass says "One Liquid Quart"
It still has the fill lines on the bottle.
PA. Serial # M-24.
Approved Model BW 1228

I know it's not a tool per se but it's kind of neat.

Got a couple of them...they're neat, aren't they?

I recall some of those still bein' used as late as the late '60s for "recycled" oil! $0.35 a quart.

Well...the bottle cost considerably more than $.35.

Oh, yeah!! An original bottle is worth a few bucks!

Well, NOW they do.

Even then the jar stayed at the location of the oil. "Pour-n-putt" so-t'-speak.

You can find the funnels attached to regular old Mason jars from time-to-time but finding original oil jars is becoming harder & harder.

The shop where I found this one had a few more. I think it was part of an 8 pack. This one was the only one with the embossed info on the spout. It still has the faded fill lines painted
on the bottle.
Good thing she didn't have the metal carry tray or I'd bet she
wouldn't have sold me just the one.

Does your bottle have "oil" & "fill to this ring one full liquid quart" on it?

Yep. There are two fading silver lines on it.
The other ones didn't have the silver lines.
Lots of neat info cast into the glass as raised
letters.
The silver lines are painted on and are not raised.

I love the Litchfield reference. That's where we go for beach holidays. Litchfield S.C....NOT Ill.

Mine are all cast into the glass.

Hmmmm...I'll have to look close. I thought the silver lines were painted on the bottle.
All other markings and writings are cast into the glass.

My line is cast into the glass.

The words "fill to line" with a cast arrow pointing
to a cast line are there. This one has two silver lines which appear to be painted inside the glass below those words,
arrow and line that are raised.
It's hard to get a good pic of raised stuff on glass but you can see the "fill to line" and the silver lines I'm talking about. I hope.

Yep, looks like some enterprising young filling station attendant figured out an easy way to see the line!

...pretty neat. Never seen one before.

Back or side light it. Good excuse to spend money on photo gear.

The ones I've seen have a small metal spout cap, also there are bands with 30w, 40w,etc that fit the metal spouts. If didn't have my workshop in rehab mode 9a mess of course) I'd hit you with some pics. Now there are some fancy Shell and Esso's that are taller and have a nice flip top lids, they tend to bring good money at swap meets. tt
