A surprise MG

We went to a memorial service the other night for the mother of our friend Maureen. While sad, the old gal lived a long and great life. And considering her recent health circumstances, this was one of those things that might be considered a "blessing".

As is common these days, there were many old photos of Maureen's mom at the service.
One of them showed her mom driving a rubber bumper MG Midget!

When I asked Maureen about it she said that her mom had a "sensible" car but it had finally died. So Mom went out to buy a new car and returned with the MG! Maureeen said everyone was shocked, but they soon became attached to the car and had great fun with it over the years. Even went on a camping vacation in it (with two adults and two kids, plus tents, etc.....don't ask me how?)

Anyway, it was fun to hear about an MG that had become part of a family history.

By the way, the service was held in nearby Peapack, which is one of those old-money NJ towns. We saw some exotic cars at the funeral home and around town; Maureen said those are driven by the local nouveau riche.
The very, very rich people don't care and tend to drive 10 year old Chevys. Jackie O lived in Peapack until she died, and it was common to see her driving around town in an elderly and well worn BMW sedan.
